Dear Myne - My Boo Just Got Engaged To Another Woman, Should I Tell Him She's A Fraudster?

Posted in: , ,

Hi Myne, would like to get your advice as well as others. I have a question regarding a situation i am facing. I am in my Thirties and I met and got into a ‘relationship’ with good, Christian man that I met at church about three years ago. I really liked him and was looking forward to him making us official. For three years, he never did. We spent most of our time, meeting up, getting to know each other as friends and even getting physical at a point, but I was never asked out.

My Guy Crush Cannot Speak Good English

Posted in: , ,

I'm 17 his 20 in college but he didn't come to America at an early age but when I first saw him I could stop smiling he was so nice and handsome definitely my type but then he started speaking English it was terrible it turned me off literally.

I feel like I love him but I'm scared of going any further with him because he doesn't speak English fluently plus his Caribbean and those guys are aggressive I had made a promise to never date them because of what my mother went through with them.

My Experience With My Nigerian Husband - American Blog Reader Writes

Posted in: , , ,

This originally came in as a comment on the post about Nigerian men making good husbands on Can A Typically Traditional Nigerian Man Make A Good Husband? It seems this writer has not had a good experience. Read on...

He would also do things on purpose by carrying out drama. When I would cook a meal for both of us. He would turn around and cook himself something else different. So I decided to keep the argument down. I would just prepare a meal for myself. And when I would do that he would ask me where his dinner is? Always making it his business to irritate the situation.

Dear Myne - He Gets Horribly Annoyed That I don't Send My Nude Pictures

Someone buzzed me on Facebook and this conversation ensued. After I gave my advice, I got to thinking, maybe I got it wrong. Am I too old school? Should exchanged naked pictures become a real and necessary part of building relationships? Please share your thoughts...

30-Year-Old Woman Needs Advice To Help Her Leave Abusive Marriage

Posted in: , , ,

I am Mrs. Uche, I got married 2 years ago to a man who lives and works abroad.  I am currently going through some hell called marriage. I am abused psychologically, emotionally, financially and otherwise.

It all started a year after our wedding. That same sumptuous guy I thought was an angel changed automatically into a legendary nightmare. I stopped seeing those characteristics I thought he had before we walked down the aisle to profess our love.
He became so arrogant, wicked and proud.

Dear Myne - I'm African-American And My Nigerian (Igbo) Man Won't Introduce Me to His Mother

Posted in: , ,

Hello Myne,

I have been following your blog for a short time and I found you because I am dating a Nigerian Igbo man and was curious about his culture.  I would like to post a question on your blog for some responses. Here is my story:

I been dating my Igbo guy for 11 months and he has been everything that I wanted in a guy.  He communicates with me daily via text/call, we see each other at least 2-3 times a week depending on our work schedule.  Last what I love the most is whatever he says he's going to do he does it. If I need anything he's there. He does not say I love you often, but he greets me with a kiss every time I see him and he does show affection so I am ok with that.

However my issue is in the 11 months I have known him I have not been to his house, or met any of his family.  I know that he works and what he does, but I don't know where it is located. His mother lives with him right now and he has shared with me that his mother wants him to marry and African woman because his brother married a Jamaican woman and since his parents were in Nigeria at that time they had no say on it.

Is He Cheating? My Boyfriend Says He Chats Up Other Girls To Stop Them Becoming Lesbians

Posted in: , , ,

Good evening Myne, please I need advice please...I have been dating a guy for over 2years, we love each other and have plans to get married.

Recently I came across text messages on his phone between him and a girl professing love for each other. I confronted him and he told me he was just indulging her and helping her move through a phase.

He promised me that he was being honest and also told me of another person he was helping, saying they we're both emotionally unstable and contemplating lesbianism due to numerous heartbreaks and he believes his reassuring them will stir them in the right direction.

My Husband Wants Me To Have An Abortion Because I Lost My Job, But I Want My Baby!

Posted in: , , ,

Hi Myne, I've been reading your blog for a long time and have turned to it for relationship advice now and again. Being a Nigerian-American woman married to a Nigerian man (whom I love very dearly), I can't say American relationship advice often applies to our situation, especially now that our lives have fallen into a bleak valley.

In just three months, I lost my job (I'm the breadwinner) and discovered I was pregnant with our second child. My husband adores our 1st child (1-yr old), but when he heard my news, he demanded I have an abortion. He refuses to hear anything else and says I'm selfish to keep the baby. That I only do what I want.

My religious belief forbids abortion, but more than that, I'm a young mother who knows that this child will not ruin our lives. He won't hear of anymore kids until, he says, we're financially set, by that he means wealthy. He'd have me have multiple abortions until he deemed the time right for a child.

[Advice Please] Is it OK For Him To be in a Serious Relationship With Me and Still Flirt With Another Girl?

Posted in: , , ,

Dear Myne, I'm a regular follower of your blog. My boyfriend and I are very much in love with each other and in a serious relationship which is known to both our families and friends. Recently, I was looking for a particular contact on his BBM chat and i stumbled upon a chat with a lady whom he is apparently flirting with.

I was shocked and surprised at the same time because he is not that kind of a person. I asked his friend and I was told he was just whiling away time with the girl.

I'm confused because i don't know if it is okay for him to be in a serious relationship with me and still flirt with another girl. Please advice on me what to do because it has been on my mind for days now.

Thanks.

[Please Advise] Dear RML, WHAT AM I DOING WRONG???

Posted in: ,

This came in as a comment on the Real Love Story post

Awwww!!!! The story got me praying to God and asking for something beautiful as this to happen to me. At times I just feel like giving up. What is wrong with me that I don't seem to hook up with someone I love and who in turn genuinely loves me? There must be something wrong isn't it RML readers?

I've got a guy who head over heels in "love' with me but frankly I FEEL NOTHING for him. A friend tried to match make me with someone in the US and when we started off, it was ok though I was constantly appalled at his terrible use of the English language(both written and oral) and he is supposedly doing his Masters.

[Please Advice] I Want to Quit My Dropout Boyfriend and Our Stagnant Relationship

Dear Myne ... I saw ur post on breakups, it's really wonderful. I am about to quit a four-year relationship. I am a graduate of Philosophy from Unilag. I graduated about four years ago. I met this guy when I was in 300level. I showed my affection to him first. The problem started during my fourth year; he failed a course and as a medical student he had to go back or change department.

[Please Advice] Do You Ever Worry About Meeting The Right Person For You?

Posted in: , , ,

Dear Myne. I am going to be 36 later this year and still single and I'm beginning to get worried. Don't get me wrong, I am meeting lots of people, but no one I really want to date. The guys I like already have girlfriends or they are just not interested in me. The ones who pay me attention are the ones I know are so wrong for me.

The languages of love - what is yours?

Posted in: , ,

I have come across this a few times, how do you want your partner to show love to you. There is even a book called the five languages of love. Read the scenario below and let's discuss...

*******************************

Chioma and Obinna have been going out for six months. For Chioma, it's been a wonderful experience. Obinna is honest, attentive, caring, supportive and generous - a refreshing change from the lowlifes that she has dated in the past. Add to that that he is well-built, intelligent and good-looking, and she can truly say that he is the perfect person for her, except for just one thing...

When Chioma started going out with Obinna, she noticed immediately that he was not very expressive, quite stoic in fact. She didn't mind this at the time, especially because some of the guys she had been out with in the past had been smooth talkers - and where did that get her when she found that they had been using their silver tongues to get other girls on the side? So she was glad Obinna was matter-of-fact, their relationship had started after months of platonic friendship while working together.

But now it was beginning to get on her nerves. Chioma loves hearing expressions of endearment as much as she loves saying them. Hearing those three magic words "I love you" from someone that she really cares for never fails to light up her day. Obinna had only said it once, a day she had kicked up a fuss after a major disagreement. She decided they had to talk again about this. She told Obinna that oh, she didn't want to nag, but he knew that saying he loved her really made her happy. Maybe he could say it more often, send her some love notes or poems, even be more receptive of her public displays of affection.

Obinna responded by saying that she knew the kind of person he was when they started dating. Honestly, he said, he had never been the demonstrative kind of person; he grew up in an environment where such displays of emotion were discouraged or not practiced. He was not used to it, it made him uncomfortable and he preferred their affairs being private. Besides, he continued, it wasn't as if he didn't show her how much he loved her in other ways, like spending quality time with her, doing things for her when she needed help or support and buying her gifts.

Chioma said that she truly appreciated these gestures, but she didn't really understand how difficult it could be just to open your mouth and express how you felt or even write it down. So she didn't really think she was asking for that much. Obinna countered by saying that it wasn't fair for her to prescribe to him how he should express his love to her. How would she feel if he told her that she must wash all his clothes, cook for him all the time and clean after him to show how much she loved him? But she wasn't insisting, Chioma retorted...

The discussion did not end conclusively, and for Chioma, the issue still lingers. Obinna knows this, and has asked whether he should record his voice saying "I love you" so that she can hear that as an alarm ring tone on her phone when she wakes up, but Chioma thinks that is a sign that he is treating the matter unseriously. She doesn't know whether she should look elsewhere as Obinna doesn't look like changing his stance, or whether she should just learn to live with it...
